Owner and baker Amber DiCostanz opened Marmalade Café and Bakery in December 2021. She was the pastry chef at the well-known Spouter’s Inn & Restaurant for seven years.
Spouter’s, as known to the locals, was destroyed by fire in December 2019. The beloved restaurant had been a fixture on the Beaufort waterfront for over 30 years. So, it was with much anticipation that locals and visitors were looking forward to Amber’s exciting new venture.
Located next to the General Store, Marmalade Café and Bakery serves a full breakfast five days a week. Their signature breakfast dish is a Crème Brûlée Waffle with pastry cream, whipped cream, and fresh berries. Aditional breakfast features include Panettone French Toast, and a Waffle with Blueberry Compote. The menu includes a Breakfast Sandwich, Quiche of the Day and Bagel with Cream Cheese.
The bakery features cakes, croissants, pies, brownies, cookies, and other desserts. They also offer specialty coffee drinks.
What’s in a name? The name Marmelade is a tribute to Amber’s fond memories of her grandfather who enjoyed marmelade for breakfast every morning.
Marmelade Café is located on the first floor of the Thomas Duncan House (circa 1856). Angel’s Share Inn, with two upscale one-bedroom suites, is housed on the second floor. For more information, visit www.AngelsShareInn.com.
Stay at the Angel’s Share Inn and wake up to the delicious aroma of fresh baked pastries. On Thursday through Monday night stays, daily breakfast for two is included. Enjoy a full savory or sweet breakfast from Marmalade’s, either delivered to the privacy of your room or dine in the café downstairs.
The building was carefully restored and renovated in 2021 by owners Nelson and Patti Owens. The historic restoration was completed under the guidance of the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service.
