Originally from Guam, Executive Chef Christopher Lopez was raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina in a military family. Traveling the world he became interested in the culinary arts. He worked in small restaurants and bistros throughout high school and college. Chris found his way to Cary, North Carolina working at the now defunct 1750 Ordinary.
In 2008, Chef Chris’ passion for food took him to Las Vegas, Nevada where he worked under some of the top chefs in the industry. As Garde Manger, Chris worked for Thomas Keller when he brought his award-winning bistro cuisine to the city of Las Vegas with Bouchon at the Venetian.
Chef Chris also worked as a chef under Chef Kim Canteenwalla, the powerhouse behind the acclaimed Las Vegas neighborhood favorites; Honey Salt, Made L.V. and Andiron Steak & Sea.
Chef Chris returned to Eastern North Carolina to help open 34° North Restaurant at the Beaufort Hotel. In 2020, he became the Executive Chef.
34° North Restaurant, serves breakfast, lunch, upscale dinner, with a full bar daily. You’ll enjoy their popular weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Take-out with curbside service is always available.
Their fresh local seafood is often accompanied by seasonal local produce. 34° North Restaurant supports many local and regional farmers and businesses, dedicated to providing you with the freshest produce, vegetables, and ingredients of the season. They believe in the “earth to table” concept, which means they can guarantee their chefs select the very best meats, seafood, and produce for your dining pleasure.
Local partners working with 34° North Restaurant include Merrell Farms, Carteret County’s only century-old farm, and Jamie’s Mushroom Farm of Beaufort. Others partners are Marshallberg Farm, Walker Farm, and Whittaker Farm.
34° North Restaurant is open to the public. Complimentary valet service for restaurant and bar patrons.
Live music takes place Friday and Saturday from April through September.
